Virgil worked on a farm of a relative in the community for a number of years and then engaged in farming for himself for two years. He entered the military service on 25 November 1942. He was in the Army Medical Corps and trained at Camp Adair, Oregon, the Desert Training Center at Los Angeles, California and at Camp Carson, Colorado. He went overseas in September 1944. He was home on a 20-day furlough in June 1944 when his brother Curtis, was so severely injured in a train-automobile crash here. Virgil was killed during the Mark River operation. |
